How it all began....
I have always loved the farming lifestyle and from an early age I was constantly outside whether it was with the animals, playing sport or trying to keep up with my two older sisters. In the early days, most of my time was spent with the ponies attending pony club camps and competitions. However as I grew up, sport started to take a dominating role. I loved all sports including Tennis, Football, Hockey and Athletics, but Netball was the game I took most seriously. After representing England at the U17 European Netball Championships, I decided to further my education at a university where I could combine my academic studies with an intensive netball training program (as well as being not to far away from the farm!)
The University of Bath was the obvious choice where I opted to study a degree in Sport and Social Sciences. My ambition at the time was to become a Physical Education (PE) teacher, and so I completed my placement year teaching sport at King Edwards School. Although I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would jump at the opportunity to go back, I always had farming niggling in the back of my mind! In my final year I helped out with some Tuberculosis (TB) testing and unbeknown to my family, I started to research farming and agriculture courses. After much consideration I talked to Mum and Dad about the possibility of returning back to the farm as I knew this was an opportunity that couldn't be missed. Initially they were taken back by my decision as I was totally dedicated to my sport and degree, however at they same time, they were delighted at the prospect of me continuing the family farming business (Always a worry for parents with three daughters!).
Aside from the farm and sport, Baking is my other passion. I would love to go on the Great British Bake Off and it’s my dream to set up a farm shop selling Beef and Steak reared on the farm and homemade cakes baked in the farm kitchen.
Although the farm is a thriving business and supplier of British Beef, I wish to add a different dimension and change the traditional male oriented image of farming. I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, but at the same time realise that it is going to take a lot of time, effort and hard work!! I wish to blog about key events and changes that happen on the farm and hope you enjoy reading them!
Thank you :)
